Over half of UK gamblers view betting funds differently to money in their bank accounts, new research reveals

During Safer Gambling Week, BetMGM reveals data that highlights UK gambling and betting habits
Over half of UK gamblers view the money in their accounts with betting websites as different to the money in their bank account, new research from BetMGM can reveal.
To mark Safer Gambling Week in the UK, BetMGM surveyed UK residents who have placed a bet or gambled within the last 12 months, with 51% of them saying they see money in gambling accounts differently to their personal funds. Despite the money holding the same value no matter where it is held, the research highlights that there is an innate awareness of its true value.
Further highlighting this and the need for greater education and awareness around gambling, 19% admitted they usually or always chase their gambling losses, while 14% do not view their winnings as ‘real money’.
However, there is a positive trend among younger players, with those aged between 18-34 more likely (92%) to put a monetary restriction on their betting to ensure their safety.
BetMGM is committed to promoting safer gambling and providing an experience which is safe and enjoyable for all players – and undertook this research to educate the public about gambling habits and how to stay responsible while betting.
Sam Behar, UK Director at BetMGM, said: “The industry has come on leaps and bounds in the past decade – we know so much more about responsible gambling and everyone at BetMGM is devoted to ensuring our customers play safely.
“We’re a huge supporter of Safer Gambling Week but it is something that is core to our business throughout the year.
“We’re delighted to see the growing use of responsible gambling with younger players throughout the UK, but there is always more that can be done. We are striving to improve and introduce new methods to help potential problem gamblers.
“To those who have admitted chasing their losses and those who view the funds in their betting accounts as different to that of their bank accounts, we implore them to see that money as having real-world value.”
BetMGM has tools in place to support players who are feeling uncomfortable about their gambling, including human customer support available 24/7.
Also in place are deposit, loss, session and wagering limits, self-exclusion and ad-limiting tools as well as access to services like therapy, support groups and financial blocks.
Key findings from the report include:
- 51% of UK gamblers view the money in their gambling accounts as different from that in their bank accounts
- 92% of players 18-24 put monetary restrictions on their gambling
- 46% put money won from gambling into their savings
- 26% use gambling winnings to place another bet straight away
- 19% always or usually chase their gambling losses

Witness legends collide in Battle of Myths by Swintt’s Elysium Studios

Exciting new addition to the Elysium Studios – Driven by Swintt line-up sees a centuries old feud between dragon and tiger reignited in a flurry of free spins
Get front row seats to an epic clash between two rival gods in Battle of Myths – an action-packed addition to the Elysium Studios – Driven by Swintt line-up that pits dragon against tiger in a divine skirmish where free spins and multipliers will ultimately decide the victor.
Set to an imposing backdrop of mountaintop dojos jutting from the heart of the rainforest, Battle of Myths is an Asian mythology-inspired slot that sees legendary warriors fight for control of the kingdom and the heart of the princess with the help of cascading reels and powerful wild features.
Upon starting the slot, players will immediately notice two distinct additions above the reels – namely the multiplier metre and a unique health bar. The first increases by 1x whenever a win is hit, at which point all featured icons will disappear as new ones drop from above to fill their place.
The health bar, meanwhile, depicts the struggle between dragon and tiger and can dramatically swing in favour of one or the other after every spin. If players land green dragon symbols, dragon will gain the upper hand, while if any red tiger symbols appear, tiger will claw back the advantage.
As this is going on, each combatant can potentially unleash their superpower – with dragon swooping across the reels to add random wilds and tiger dropping a mega wild to complete winning combinations – but if either fighter entirely fills the bar, an exciting new feature will begin.
If the dragon is victorious, players will receive eight free spins with random wilds always being added before the start of each one, while if tiger wins the fight, the same rules apply but with a mega wild constantly present. In both features, the multiplier metre won’t reset when a spin is over, meaning it’ll grow with each new win and push players even closer to the slot’s incredible 8,482x maximum win potential.
Finally, it wouldn’t be a fair fight if the princess didn’t get a say in the outcome – and fortunately whenever multiple instances of her symbol appear, all icons between them horizontally or vertically will be transformed into wilds to hopefully trigger more of the game’s 4,096 ways to win.
David Mann, Chief Executive Officer at Swintt, said: “It’s not every day you get to witness the gods collide in a winner-takes-all tussle for love and glory, but that’s exactly what’s at stake in our latest offering from Elysium Studios. With cascading reels, 4096 ways to win and two powerful free spins features, Battle of Myths provides an unforgettable experience for all fans of next-gen slots – and with a top prize of 8,482x, it certainly packs a punch that will shake the very heavens!”

Neosurf launches in Switzerland to redefine cash-to-digital payments

Neosurf, the forward-thinking online payment provider known for its cash-to-digital expertise, has officially launched in Switzerland, offering operators a robust solution that supports both user satisfaction and regulatory peace of mind.
Despite being seen as a tough nut to crack due to its competitive landscape and stringent spending controls, Neosurf responded to the calls of Swiss operators who felt the market was currently underserved for cash players by gaining approval from regulators to roll out its products.
Currently available via Sweepay at SBB rail kiosks and Swiss payment app, TWINT, Neosurf will work to provide players with the best possible payments experience while also assisting operators with their safer gambling requirements and supplying smoother deposits and payouts.
“We believe the role of a payments company is about more than just providing simple deposits and withdrawals – it should also extend to building stronger user experiences and offering ongoing AML and compliance support to clients,” said Neosurf Global CEO, Andrea McGeachin.
“The exciting thing about entering the Swiss market is that Neosurf is addressing a demand from cash-based users that’s currently underserved. Given we know how to handle cash for online deposits in a safe, secure and traceable manner that ensures AML standards and prevents fraud, this is increasingly becoming a unique advantage for us in markets where cash features heavily.”
With a reported 67% of iGaming transactions in Switzerland still being cash-based, Neosurf will provide retail points of sale via its local partners, pre-paid vouchers and digital wallet services that can support users on their path to spend, making it an ideally tailored solution for the market.
Over the coming months, Neosurf intends to form many new partnerships in the region to make its range of cash-to-digital payment services even easier for players to access and the brand will also be rolled out over more operators with fully localised language settings and supportive tools.
Said Rodolphe Texier, CEO, SweePay, “We are delighted to welcome Neosurf to our growing portfolio of digital products in Switzerland. At SweePay, our mission is to empower consumers and merchants by offering the widest range of products — including e-money, gift cards & invoice payments. By partnering with innovative companies like Neosurf, we continue to expand the range of convenient and responsible payment options available to Swiss users-both online and at the point of sale.”
