WePlay Studios’ design team is the winner of the International Design Awards 2023
The Ukrainian team won the first two places in the Broadcast Design category for the live broadcasts of the WePlay Academy League and the WePlay Ultimate Fighting League.
The WePlay Academy League and WePlay Ultimate Fighting League are esports tournament series launched by WePlay during 2021–2022. The competitions were among the last ones the company held as an esports tournament operator in Ukraine before the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022. Even with the hostilities going on, the WePlay team managed to stream three more seasons of the WePlay Academy League from Kyiv.
During each tournament, WePlay strived to regale the viewers with vibrant emotions, so project and broadcast design was a priority.
The International Design Awards recognized the efforts of the WePlay Studios’ design team in making the WePlay Academy League and the WePlay Ultimate Fighting League — they got the first two places in the Multimedia/Broadcast Design category. The jury recognized Ukrainian designers’ work among over a thousand applications from 80 countries for creating bold, graphic, and engaging content.

“Even after three years, the visual style of the WePlay Academy League and the WePlay Ultimate Fighting League remains as relevant as ever. This award proves that our team is moving in the right direction and always creates a high-quality visual component. I am proud to work with who I think are the best Ukrainian CG artists.
Working on the concepts of the WePlay Ultimate Fighting League and the WePlay Academy League, we selected an indestructible MMA fighter and plastic candy containers in the form of toy CS:GO weapons, respectively, as key objects. At the time, the team did not know what awaited our people in the future. Now we understand how fragile the most indestructible person can be, and that weapons are no toys at all,” shares Dmytro Drapikovskyi, head of CG at WePlay Studios.
