India: High-level Cricket Betting Ring Busted at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur

Jaipur police busted a high-level betting ring which was operating from the Sawai Mansingh cricket stadium in Rajasthan’s Jaipur. A total of 37 bookies were taken into custody and 70 mobile phones were seized by officials.

The betting was done by watching the live telecast of cricket matches. The bets were regarding the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The bookies had a telecast which was running 30 seconds in advance. The accused were sitting inside the stadium and placing bets on the basis of the telecast.

A total of 37 bookies of the high-level betting ring have been arrested. They revealed that such betting rings were also operational in other states, including UP, Delhi and Haryana. Over 70 mobile phones were recovered from the spot. They were allegedly placing bets to the tune of crores.

Based on confidential information from an informant, the crime branch team of the Jaipur Commissionerate launched an operation to nab the betting ring. The entire operation was under the direction of Commissioner Anand Srivastava and the team that made the bust was led by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Sulesh Chaudhary.
