Galaxy Racer To Invest RM42 Million (US$10 Million) Into Malaysia’s Esports Ecosystem

Galaxy Racer (GXR), founded in 2019 by Paul Roy, is the largest esports, gaming and lifestyle organization in the world, headquartered in Dubai, with over 100 content creators across Southeast Asia, the Middle East North Africa, South Asia and Europe, with over 500 million followers and over 2.5 billion monthly views, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the Expo 2020 Dubai, witnessed by Tan Sri Annuar Musa, the Minister of Communications and Multimedia Malaysia (KKMM) and Mahadhir Aziz, the CEO of Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC).

Galaxy Racer is one of the participating companies in the Malaysia Digital Economy Week, which was launched on January 12th 2021, at the Expo 2020 Dubai by Malaysia’s Communications and Multimedia Minister, Tan Sri Annuar Musa.

Galaxy Racer has announced a projected investment of RM42 million (US$10 million) in Malaysia within the next five years and plans to organise more esports events and tournaments to facilitate and boost the country’s esports ecosystem.

Galaxy Racer aims to boost the involvement of females in esports, adding that it had organised the ‘Girl Gamer Festival World Finals’ in Dubai, which was the first and only esports festival to celebrate women’s competitiveness in video games, and ‘Her Galaxy’, the first women’s esports tournament in Pakistan.

Galaxy Racer will be launching its Asia Pacific headquarters (APAC HQ) in Malaysia in 2022 and is looking to position Malaysia as its digital hub in the region. The APAC HQ will focus on six business verticals – content, esports teams, content creators, esports and gaming events, merchandising, a music label and an upcoming world-class visual effects (VFX) animation studio, positioning Galaxy Racer as a global content powerhouse and market leader in the digital content industry.

Galaxy Racer plans to be a catalyst by providing highly-skilled jobs and the opportunity for Malaysians to work in an international esports, gaming and lifestyle organization, which will contribute incremental revenue to the country via its intellectual properties in the digital content industry.

The digital economy is becoming one of the biggest contributors to Malaysia’s gross domestic product (GDP), making up to 22.6% of the nation’s economy. It is expected to contribute as high as 25.5% by 2025, outperforming the traditional largest contributor to the nation’s GDP – oil and gas. Galaxy Racer believes that MDEC would also be the catalyst for the nation’s Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR 4.0).

PAGCOR maintains ISO 9001:2015 certification

The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) reaffirmed its commitment to quality governance standards after successfully maintaining its ISO 9001:2015 certification.

The certification, granted by DQS Certification Philippines, Inc. (DQS), came after a series of rigorous surveillance and scope extension audits conducted from December 16 to 20, 2024.

The recognition was formalized during an awarding ceremony today, April 24, at PAGCOR’s Corporate Office in Pasay City, affirming PAGCOR’s adherence to international quality management standards.

The surveillance audit covered eight existing sites including PAGCOR’s Main Corporate Office and several Casino Filipino branches in Tagaytay, Angeles, Citystate, Cebu, Ilocos Norte, Olongapo, and Bacolod.

The certification scope was also extended to ten additional sites including Casino Filipino Grand Regal, Malabon Grand, Binondo, Manila Grand Opera, Greenery, Midas, Kartini, Oriental Pearl, Networld, and Tropicana in Las Piñas.

PAGCOR Chairman and CEO Alejandro H. Tengco emphasized that maintaining the ISO 9001:2015 certification is an important testament to the agency’s dedication to excellence and public service.

“Maintaining our ISO 9001:2015 certification is certainly no small feat,” he said. “This is the result of the collective effort of the entire PAGCOR family, and it reflects our team’s discipline, teamwork and commitment to quality service for the benefit of the government and the Filipino people.”

In its audit report, DQS lauded PAGCOR’s top management for consistently supporting quality improvements and effectively managing risk, highlighting the agency’s strong operational controls, cross-divisional collaboration and focus on employee engagement and customer satisfaction.

Among other noteworthy initiatives cited by the third party audit team were innovations in cash transaction handling at gaming tables, the use of customer feedback systems and e-learning compliance training especially in anti-money laundering.

It also noted the agency’s deployment of modern technologies like the “Card Canister Randomizer” and digital record-keeping systems.

The ISO 9001:2015 certification, which applies to PAGCOR’s multi-site operations, remains valid until March 21, 2026.

Joining him is Dr. Arjun Jain, a generative AI and computer vision expert with a Ph.D. from the Max-Planck Institute. He has held key roles at global tech leaders like Apple and is best known for his pioneering work on motion capture technology at Weta Digital for Steven Spielberg movies (The Adventures of Tintin). At Jetapult, Dr. Jain will lead efforts in large-scale asset generation and AI-assisted content creation, streamlining production pipelines across mobile gaming studios.

Riot Games has announced the launch of Legends Ascend South Asia in association with Aftermath Ventures. Kicking off on April 27, the tournament will be an open-for-all, online-only amateur competition, marking a bold new chapter for competitive League of Legends in the region.

Legends Ascend South Asia runs for four months and features a robust tournament structure, including three open qualifiers, a round-robin league stage, and double-elimination playoffs.
