Renowned City of London venue and keynote speaker secured for a November conference that will address all the burning issues of the UK government’s Gambling Act Review

Clear Concise Media, a leading content and events provider for the sports betting and gaming industry, is pleased to announce the latest edition of its progressive Reputation Matters series, “UK Gambling’s Future At Stake”, which will take place on the afternoon of Tuesday 2 November at Ironmongers’ Hall in the City of London.

The event will be kicked off with a keynote speech from John O’Reilly, chief executive at Rank Group, who will set the scene for the afternoon at what is a crucial juncture for the sector.

With the outcome of the British Government’s Review of the Gambling Act imminent, this timely series of speakers and panels will assess how the sector can survive and thrive in the shifting landscape that will inevitably follow the Review. Discussion points will pivot around where the sector stands on the pressing issue of the maintenance of its relationship with its regulator, and how it can credibly evidence its sustainability credentials to investors.

“The Gambling Act Review is obviously top of mind right now, so Clear Concise Media is thrilled to be putting together an in-person event that will be addressing some of the most significant areas of debate surrounding the future of the UK gambling sector right now,” said Scott Longley from organisers Clear Concise Media.

“Even as we rebound from the pandemic, public opinion and regulatory challenges haven’t gone away. I’m particularly excited that John O’Reilly will be presenting the keynote; he brings with him such a wealth of experience and I think the attendees will be very interested in what he has to say.”

This Reputation Matters conference is supported once again by two leading sponsors in legal practice, Wiggin LLP, and financial services firm, Goodbody.

“After a prolonged period of regulatory uncertainty, we hope the Review will result in clear, evidence-based regulation that finds the right balance between consumer protection, individual freedoms and the economic sustainability of the industry. It is such an interesting time to bring together an array of prominent industry stakeholders to discuss the issues arising from the Review, particularly considering the stall set out by the Commission in the recent past,” said Steve Ketteley, co-head of the Betting and Gaming Team at Wiggin LLP.

A stellar Reputation Matters line-up includes:

John O’Reilly (Rank Group), Ian Ince (Playtech), Sue Albion (Flutter Entertainment), Steve Ketteley (Wiggin), Oliver Rowe (YouGov), Camilla Wright (Red Knot Communications), Dan Waugh (Regulus Partners), Adam Brickell (Flutter Entertainment), Gavin Kelleher (Goodbody), Kirsty Caldwell (Betsmart Consulting), James Harrsion (Partis), Kelly Kehn (AlI-In Diversity), Richard Bayliss (Playtech), Kelly Perry (Edison) and Lawrence Gosling (ESG Clarity).

Thirsk Racecourse has announced that Ladbrokes will sponsor the 2025 Thirsk Hunt Cup.

First run in 1859, the £50,000 mile handicap is Thirsk’s most prestigious race and highlight of Thirsk Hunt Cup Day on Saturday, May 3.

Ladbrokes is the biggest and best-known betting brand in the UK with over 1500 betting shops, a digital betting business and a long-standing association with horse racing dating back many decades.

The company boasts a strong sponsorship portfolio in horse racing, including Kempton Park’s Ladbrokes Christmas Festival, the Ladbrokes Chester Cup and the Ladbrokes Chase at the Dublin Racing Festival.

Ladbrokes also sponsors leading Jump trainer Dan Skelton, who writes a weekly blog as he bids to win the British Jump trainers’ championship for the first time.

Farhh is the most notable winner of the Thirsk Hunt Cup in recent years, taking the 2012 edition by six lengths before a memorable Group 1 double the following year in the Lockinge Stakes at Newbury and Ascot’s Champion Stakes.

Simon Clare, PR Director for Ladbrokes, said: “We are excited to sponsor such an iconic and prestigious race as the Thirsk Hunt Cup, and look forward to partnering with Thirsk Racecourse as we seek to strengthen our support and promotion of the sport.”

James Sanderson, Chief Executive and Clerk of the Course, said: “We are delighted to have Ladbrokes sponsoring the Thirsk Hunt Cup and its supporting programme in 2025. The £50,000 Ladbrokes Thirsk Hunt Cup is an early Flat season highlight in the North and we are very grateful for Ladbrokes’ most valued support.

“Over the past 10 years, northern-based trainers have held a vice-like grip on the contest, with the notable exception of Mick Channon (and STORTING) in 2021. Thirsk always welcomes challengers from far and wide but taking the 2025 Ladbrokes Thirsk Hunt Cup down south will be no easy task.”
