DATA.BET: Pre-match betting takes 63% of World Cup 2026 turnover

DATA.BET has published an analysis of betting activity during the FIFA World Cup 2026, reporting that pre-match betting accounted for 63% of turnover, with live markets at 37%. The tournament was hosted in the United States, Canada, and Mexico and drew a combined 6.8 million attendances across 104 matches, according to the company.

DATA.BET said the pre-match/live split stayed consistent over the six weeks “regardless of stage or opponent.” The supplier also reported that stat-based markets generated more than 11% of total turnover, with Corners Total its most popular statistical market, ranking 10th overall by stake behind core markets such as 1×2 and Totals.

Bet Builder activity increasingly combined markets including Corners, Yellow Cards, and Team Totals with Anytime Goalscorer, which DATA.BET linked to finishing from Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé, Erling Haaland, and Harry Kane.

On a team basis, DATA.BET said France generated the highest stake, followed by Spain, Argentina, England, and Belgium. The supplier reported the top five teams accounted for 36.5% of total stake. It also flagged “sharpest shifts” in betting activity tied to non-traditional contenders, citing Cape Verde’s group stage surprise and Egypt’s Round of 16 run led by Mohamed Salah.

DATA.BET also compared tournament turnover with an esports event it tracked over the same period. “The scale wasn’t just visible on the pitch — it showed in our numbers too. The combined betting turnover of the FIFA World Cup 2026 and the Intel Extreme Masters Cologne Major 2026 was split 58.5% to 41.5% in favor of the World Cup,” mentioned Yevhenii Ilchenko, Head of Sports at DATA.BET. The company added that while the group stage generated more than 33% more bets than the play-off stage, turnover and unique bettor counts were “almost identical,” with average stakes 28% higher in the play-offs and the Semi-finals and Final producing the highest turnover of any stage.

“What made this World Cup stand out wasn’t one number — it was how consistently engaged bettors stayed for six straight weeks, till the final,” mentioned Yevhenii Ilchenko, Head of Sports at DATA.BET.
