Flashscore launches enhanced player rating system with the help of Petr Cech
– Ex-Chelsea and Arsenal legend lends expertise to new Flashscore Rating
– Upgraded player rating uses more than 70 data points for more accurate performance assessment
– App adds host of new features for fans to elevate World Cup experience
Flashscore – the world’s most popular live scores app – has consulted Premier League legend Petr Cech to launch the brand new Flashscore Rating, with an even more detailed and fairer system in place to score player performances.
Cech is renowned for being one of the Premier League’s greatest ever goalkeepers. He holds the record for the most clean sheets ever claimed in the league by a goalkeeper, shutting out opponents 202 times.
Prague-headquartered Flashscore also works with Cech on the Big Pete YouTube series.
Ratings underpinned by expertise
Cech is one of a number of experts who have rated the new Flashscore rating system, bringing more than 70 statistics into one grade and taking into account far more than just goals and assists.
Standout moments in matches such as big chances created or errors leading to goals plays a key role in defining a player’s rating in addition to regular stats, as will their exceptional abilities, such as dominance in duels or outstanding dribbling.
The new extensive and dynamic player profiling makes sure all players are judged on their actual role in a team. A ball-winning midfielder who excels in breaking up the play will not be judged against attacking metrics.
All players are graded in the new system, regardless of their role. Whether they have a Goalkeeping, Defending, Progression, Playmaking or Attacking role, or any combination of these, they will be rated accordingly.
All this information is brought together in the new Player Card, where each user will find all the information needed to find the context behind the player’s rating. Players must play at least 10 minutes in a match in order to be rated.
‘No more black box’
Cech said: “The new Flashscore rating is not a journalist’s opinion – it’s a data algorithm. Once the system knows which role a player was active in, it builds a rating for that specific match.
“No more goalscorers getting inflated ratings for one moment, while a midfielder who runs the game gets a forgettable 6.8. The rating isn’t fixed at kick-off and it doesn’t just apply at full-time. It updates continuously as the match unfolds. Every bonus is listed on the Player Card, where you can see exactly why a player got their number. There is no black box.
“When I played, ratings felt arbitrary. Whether it was a 6.0 or a 7.0, you never really knew what moved the needle. However, the new Flashscore rating shows the workings, and that changes everything.”
Improved features for an evolving game
Flashscore Rating is a key update among several platform improvements released to users to coincide with the World Cup.
Follow News Notifications provides fans with notifications to stay up to date with news on their favourite teams, while the release of Momentum 1.5 offers a significantly improved visualization of match dynamics, enhanced with additional context and statistics.
FIFA rankings have also been added to the Flashscore app, with national team rankings are now available directly in match details and team profiles.
