G2 Announces ‘G2 Performance Lab’ to Support Performance Development of Esports and Sports Athletes

Underpinned by scientific research, G2 Performance Lab aims to revolutionise the industry’s approach to athlete training, coaching, and performance development

G2, one of the world’s leading esports and entertainment brands, has today announced the G2 Performance Lab, an applied research and innovation platform dedicated to supporting the competitive success and long-term development of G2’s elite competitive rosters.

By combining scientific research with practical performance work, the lab, launched with the support of Red Bull, aims to explore and develop best practices that strengthen both the competitive performance and the well-being of G2’s teams. The work goes beyond G2, too – the knowledge produced will be shared with the industry through scientific publications and academic work with institutions such as the German Sport University Cologne, supporting the wider esports scene for years to come.

Launched earlier this year, the lab is led by PhD candidate and Performance Coach for G2, Ismael Pedraza-Ramirez. Work is already underway, and its first project, “A Space for Leaders”, focuses on leadership development across G2’s staff through research and collaborative learning, reflecting one of the lab’s four core pillars – coaching and coach development. Other pillars include training design & delivery, player development, and performance health & support systems, all of which have incorporated projects for 2026 led by a variety of academic contributors from institutions such as German Sport University Cologne and Vrije Universiteit Brussel.

By operating through a holistic ecological approach that considers all aspects of an athlete’s environment, and embedding scientist-practitioners and researchers directly inside G2’s teams, the lab can monitor all the psychological, motor, and physiological dimensions that drive performance and create precisely tailored plans to support their development.

“As a long-standing partner of G2, Red Bull has played a central role in supporting the vision behind the G2 Performance Lab,” said Alban Dechelotte, G2 CEO. “Red Bull’s track record of investing in athlete performance and high-performance environments speaks for itself. Across traditional sports and esports alike, they share our ambition to build something truly impactful. When you have partners around the table who have that same mindset, it pushes ideas further, raises the standard, and helps challenge what’s possible.”

”The work we’re doing at the G2 Performance Lab is truly innovative for esports and sports, and is going to revolutionise how we approach performance improvement at G2 and beyond,” said Ismael Pedraza, Performance Lab Director and Performance Coach at G2. ”Elite esports competitors are incredible at what they do, yet they have the potential to go even further. Little is still known about how to properly develop them into world-class competitors, and we’re taking steps to change that with Red Bull’s support. Through robust scientific research and practical work, we’re designing the tools and building the infrastructure to bring out the best in our competitors, while also sharing our findings with the world to support the entire esports scene.”

G2 has been a pioneer in the esports scene for over a decade, launching sellout streetwear collections, entering traditional sports through Gerard Piqué’s Kings League, and forming partnerships with Ralph Lauren, Solo Leveling, and beyond, all while securing championship wins at the highest level of competition.

With the launch of its G2 Performance Lab, G2 continues to innovate, inspire, and build for the future, revolutionising the esports scene once again. Together with Red Bull, G2 aims to create a more sustainable and performance-focused future for elite esports athletes, coaches, and support staff, while continuing to explore new ways to unlock and support esports performance at the highest level.
