GameRefinery by Liftoff’s latest analysis of the US, China, and Japan’s key mobile game markets, has just been released.

Here’s what they found:

  • New monetisation mechanics have been added to lots of games, and September was a particularly busy month for new battle passes. This may be a result of Apple increasing its App Store prices in Europe and parts of Asia.

  • Diablo Immortal’s latest update provides new ways for free players to earn weapons that were previously paywalled as post-game content .

  • League of Legends: Wild Rift added a new 1v1 PvP mode alongside monetised gachas to the US and China versions of the game, causing a spike in revenue by almost 10x.

  • A worldwide celebration event for Dragon Ball Z: Dokkan Battle pushed the game to the very top of the top-grossing iOS chart in Japan and the US.
